Confession of Sin: 1 John 1:8-9

Day 16: Saturday, February 23

Everybody sins. It is like our prayer on Sundays—you can sin in thought, word, or deed. Like lying or hitting your little brother or sister or gossiping. These are just a couple of examples of different sins. When we sin, it makes us feel really bad. It can sometimes make you sad and guilty. When you feel sad and guilty , it can make you not a fun person to be around. This is why we confess our sins to God. Confession means to admit and tell the truth about something you have done wrong. We do this because we are looking for forgiveness and guidance and a little bit of help.

God makes you feel better after you confess your sins because you know that He loves you and even though you did something you shouldn’t have, He is still there for you and still loves you. Like one time I told my grandma that I ate my broccoli but I really threw it in the trash can in the bathroom. I got caught because my dog Jade pulled it out and started eating it. I felt really guilty and awful that I lied to my grandma.

That night, when I said my prayers, I asked God to forgive me for my actions and to help me to not do it again. I have not done that again. This doesn’t make it okay to do the same exact bad thing over and over again and just keep asking for forgiveness. This is where you need to ask for a little help from God to guide you in the right direction next time.

I feel better and my stomach isn’t queasy anymore after I confess to God. It makes me a better person and I feel relieved to know that I can make some mistakes in life and maybe some bad decisions, (not too many I hope) and God will always love me, forgive me, and guide me.
