Lent Day by Day 2008
Scriptural Reflections by Parishioners of St. James' Episcopal Church, Ages 6-97

Forgiveness: Luke 17:3-4

Day 22: Saturday, March 1

It is important to forgive because the only way that people can move on and make different choices in the future is if we allow them to let go of the mistakes that they made in the past. We want to encourage people to do better in life, to make better choices. I know it’s hard to speak up when another person is sinning, but Jesus tells us to do that. We all should follow Jesus’ example by correcting our friends when they make mistakes or hurt others, and forgive them when they are sincerely sorry.

After all, we are all human and we all make mistakes. In the end, it is not so important that we make mistakes. What is important is that we recognize them when we make them, that we are willing to accept the help of others who want to see us improve, and that we try to do better. We should try to set a better example for friends and family members like Jesus did for us.

But it’s important to remember that we’re only human.
