Confession of Jesus as Lord: Luke 9:18-20
Day 29: Monday, March 10
Confession is a large part of our lives.
We all do things that are wrong and that we are not proud of but God always forgives us. Jesus gave His life to redeem us of all our sins, so confessing our trespasses seems easy in comparison to what Jesus did for us. We pray at night and beg the Lord to heal us. We repent, promising we will be better in the future.
But the type of confession that takes place in these verses is much different than that. Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do the crowds say I am?” The disciples reply and tell him that some think he is John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and many think he is a prophet of long ago brought back to life. Jesus then turns to His most trusted followers and asks them who they believe he is. Peter, the spokesperson of the group, confesses lovingly, “The Christ of God”.
This is an entirely different type of confession than the kind we do every night before falling asleep. Instead of sending our countless sins up to Jesus to be redeemed, we are simply confessing that the Lord is our everything. We name Him as our Savior, our Christ, and our rock. It is a simple statement and confession but I feel that it means so much. The Lord knows everything and already knows our sins; sometimes I think He would rather just hear us confess how much we love Him.
Confess your love to the Lord. Amen.
