Confession of Jesus as Lord: Luke 9:18-20

Day 33: Friday, March 14

When I first read this question, I thought of Peter’s confession late on, the confession that is more of a denial—the one where the rooster crows three times. I never thought about Peter confessing his faith in Jesus. I just remember that Peter denied him.

When I think about confession, or confessing, I usually think of someone who is owning up to something he did. I think that Peter’s confession about his belief in Jesus being the Messiah means that Peter is fully committing himself to Jesus, and saying that he will follow him no matter what. But then he denied him. That is worth thinking about.

One way that I confess my belief in Jesus is by talking to my friends of different religions or friends who are Christian but of a different denomination. We don’t try to convert each other; we just talk about our religion. Another way I confess my faith in Jesus is when someone says the Lord’s name in vain, I tell her that it’s not a very respectful thing to do, and that she shouldn’t do it again.

I confess my faith in Jesus, but I do wonder if there are times when I deny him like Peter did.
