ANNUAL MEETING and VESTRY ELECTION

The St. James’ Annual Meeting with election of Vestry members will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Nave. At this meeting, we’ll look back at how much we have accomplished during the past year, and look forward to plans for 2008 and beyond.

VESTRY ELECTION

The election of new Vestry members (the lay leaders of the church) will be conducted at the Parish Meeting. At St. James’, Vestry members also serve as liaisons to the various ministries and programs of the parish. Our Vestry is made up of 12 members elected to serve three-year terms.

VESTRY NOMINEES

Rory Clark

A cradle Episcopalian, Rory is a native of Northern Virginia. He and his family have been attending St. James’ since 2004. Rory enjoys being a lay reader, is an active member of the Building Committee, and has helped organize and leads the Planned Giving Ministry. For the last several years, he has served as legal counsel to the Parish’s Vestry, Building Committee, Finance Committee, King Street Property Committee, and the church’s Trustees on a wide range of matters.

Rory is the managing partner of a Northern Virginia law firm and concentrates his practice on non-profit law, estate planning, real estate and business organizations. He is active in the community as a scout leader, youth coach, and alternate member of the Loudoun County Board of Zoning Appeals. Rory has held leadership positions in numerous charity and other non-profit organizations including the George C. Marshall International Center (Dodona Manor) in Leesburg where he is currently Finance Committee Chairman and a member of the Board’s Executive Committee. He also chairs the University of Virginia’s regional selection committee for its Jefferson Scholars Program.

Rory and his wife Ingrid have two children: Scott (10) and Justin (13).

Rory hopes to contribute his organizational, non-profit and strategic planning experience to helping develop and execute a mission-driven vision for St. James'.

Karl Reidel

Born in Washington, DC, Karl was raised and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, being the grandson of a Lutheran missionary in China. He has been attending St. James’ since 1999 when he and his family moved to Waterford from College Park, MD. Karl and his wife have taught Junior and Senior High Sunday School classes for the last six years and two of their children have been sponsored by St. James’ for mission trips with Solar Light for Africa. He has served St. James’ as a member of the Building Committee and the Parish Profile Committee, co-leader of a Men’s Bible Study, and managing renovations of the Seccombe House to become the new Rectory.

Karl is an architect who started a new practice in Leesburg’s Historic District at the beginning of 2007. Previously, he was a Vice President, Senior Project Manager and Director of Investments for a national real estate developer with responsibility for projects across the United States with budgets up to $400 million. Karl’s career began as an architect in several DC firms where he worked on many projects in the area, including the University of Virginia Law School.

Karl and his wife Kathy have four children: Paul (15), Jenny (18), Joseph (20) and Peter (22).

Karl desires to serve God by contributing his time and talents at this important juncture as St. James’ plans for building expansion and growth in serving its congregation and community.

Fred Williams

Fred is a long-time Virginian and son of an Episcopalian. Raised in the Roman Catholic tradition (as was his wife, Kate), he was received into the Episcopal Church at St. James’ in 2004. Fred serves as an usher and is a member of the Property Committee. In the mid-1990s, he was an adult participant on a St. James’-sponsored youth mission trip to South Dakota. His daughter, Ellen, who was on that mission trip, was married here at St. James' last August.

For more than 30 years, Fred has worked in Human Resources for Hazleton Laboratories, Corning, and Quest Diagnostics. Among his areas of expertise are employee benefits as well as mergers and acquisitions, including culture and change management. Fred currently is responsible for wellness, health promotion, and risk assessments, and frequently presents to employees, employers and policy-makers across the country. He has been active in Leesburg community affairs, having served as Vice Chair of the Leesburg Planning Committee. Fred is currently a member of the Leesburg Rotary Club. He and Kate have lived across the street from St. James’ since 1977.

In addition to Ellen (26), Fred and Kate have a son, Stephen (28).

Fred hopes his experience, skills, community knowledge, and his enthusiasm for the mission of St. James’ will contribute to the successes we all seek during the next three years, and for at least the 100 years which will follow.

Laura Young

A cradle Baptist from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Laura participated as a youth in a number of national and international mission trips. After college, she and her husband, Don, moved to Manassas where they were active in the local Baptist church. Laura was involved in the children’s and adult choirs, taught preschool Mission Friends and an adult Bible study and served on the Pastor Search Committee. She and Don also chaperoned the church’s youth on a mission trip to Mexico. In 1995, Laura’s family moved to Leesburg and she served as Junior Choir Director and Preschool Music Director at the local Methodist church. Laura came to St. James’ in 2001, where she was received into the Episcopal Church in 2002. Laura has served as Children’s Chapel Ministry Head, a 4th and 5th Grade Sunday School teacher, director of the Christmas Pageant, and a chaperone on the youth Towel Ministry mission trip.

Involved in teaching for 24 years in various capacities, Laura’s career has landed her most recently as a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College where she currently oversees the developmental reading program at the Loudoun Campus.

Laura and Don have two sons, Kevin (17) and Steven (14), who are both actively involved in the St. James’ youth programs.

Laura hopes to contribute her experience and skills in program planning as St. James’ continues its expansion and development of programs in combination with the renovation and building program. She has a particular interest in establishing a literacy outreach program at St. James’.
