For this year's retreat, our clergy set the focus for the retreat to be children and youth ministry. We were delighted to feature Kep Short, former Bishop's Canon for Youth Ministry for the Diocese of New Jersey. Kep has more than 20 years of lay experience as both a church musician and youth ministry professional.

About Shrine Mont

Shrine Mont is one of the Diocese of Virginia's retreat and conference centers.

It is nestled in the mountains in Orkney Springs, Virginia, about an hour south of Winchester. Its setting is cabins and lodges, with plenty of woods, mountains, streams, and fresh air all around. It's at the end of the road, so there's no traffic and no noise.

Each spring, many parishioners of St. James' gather there for time to relax, refresh, and recreate. You are encouraged to come and see Shrine Mont for yourself. It is a marvelous experience.

Since we are a large parish, Shrine Mont is a great place to meet parishioners who attend other Sunday services. It is a way to get to know one another in a more leisurely spiritual setting. We hope that you will join us in this opportunity to disengage and come together as the St. James' family in a whole different way and setting.

While programs are offered, participation in any activity is purely voluntary. You and your family members are welcome to join or not. Perhaps you prefer to simply relax in the rustic environment and join in for meals. Some people just nap and read books. Others enjoy wandering trails, exploring the creeks, or browsing the book shop and candy store. There are plenty of porches and rocking chairs. Join an activity if you want, when you want.
